Photography Industry News

Following the negative press resulting from the application of sections 43 and 44 of the Terrorism Act 2000 where recently several high profile photojournalists were stopped by police from simply taking photos of buildings in Central London, the Metropolitan Police has reissued guidance on photography and the law .

The general points of the reissued advice are that officers do not have the power to delete digital images, destroy film or to prevent photography in a public place under either sections. They are also reminded that under these powers they must not access text messages, voicemails or emails.

In addition, where it is clear that the person beinn searched under Sections 43 and 44 is a journalist, officers should exercise caution before viewing images as images acquired or created for the purpose of journalism may constitute journalistic material and should not be viewed without a Court Order.

To read the reissued advice in full, go to http://bit.ly/met_photo_guidance . For addition info resource, check the Met’s "About" Page for Photography

Photography Market Place

FocalPop is a stock agency offering a new way of thinking about image libraries. Its working model is as follows – image seekers post briefs stating what they are looking for and how much they are willing to pay for an image – then if they want to take up the brief, the photographers have a specified amount of time to shoot and submit an image, and after that time’s elapsed the seeker will choose their favourite.

Of course, if you do choose to submit an image, there is no guarantee that you will get the job, but if you do, there is a minimum of 70% commission on the photo sales and the price of the photographs start at $50.
